Details & Specifications

The 2007-S US State Quarter Clad Proof Set from the U.S. Mint includes all five State Quarters issued in 2007: Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah.

The obverse of each of these State Quarters is graced by the bust of George Washington. However, to make room on the reverse for the intricate state-specific designs, the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" was moved to the top rim of the obverse, while the original obverse legend of "LIBERTY" is inscribed to the left of Washington's bust. This displaced the motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," to the opposite side of the bust.

The State Quarter for each state in the Union bears its own unique reverse design that includes either the official state motto or a commonly used stock phrase associated with that state, as well as some identifying geographic, cultural, or historical motif. The new reverse legend appears at the top rim, comprised of the state's name and the year it was admitted to the Union. This 2007 set features:

  • Montana, the "Big Sky State," showing a bison skull hovering above a mountainous plain;
  • Washington, "The Evergreen State," with a leaping salmon and Mount Rainier in the distance;
  • Idaho, "ESTO PERPETUA" (Latin for "Let It Be Perpetuated"), and a Peregrine falcon next to the silhouette of Idaho;
  • Wyoming, "The Equality State," showing the outline of a rodeo rider on a bucking bronco;
  • and Utah, the "Crossroads of the West," depicting the golden spike conjoining the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads.

Note that these coins DO NOT contain any silver, but are special Proof versions of the circulating State Quarter series. They are clad in a copper-nickel alloy and carefully polished, giving the field of these quarters a reflective sheen. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, these collectible quarters are sealed in a U.S. Mint plastic presentation case.
