The Paris Mint (Monnaie de Paris) has existed at least since 864, when it was mentioned as an ongoing concern in a royal edict by Charles the Bald, grandson of Charlemagne. Now an arm of the French Government, the Paris Mint sits on the left bank of the Seine in a celebrated Neoclassical building designed by Jacques-Denis Antoine in 1771. The Paris Mint produces not only the circulating coinage of France, but also commemorative, proof, and bullion coinage as well as medals.
Popular coins from the Monnaie de Paris include the Hercules bullion coin and various French historical series.
