The Perth Mint was established in 1899 as a branch of Great Britain's Royal Mint, to process the mountains of gold coming out of the Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie goldfields of Western Australia into bars and gold sovereigns. Small wonder that they are still known for their beautiful gold coins.
Two of the most popular gold coins the Perth Mint produces are the gold Nugget/Kangaroo series which started in 1986, and the gold Lunar series which began ten years later. For 2015, the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold Kangaroos will feature a kangaroo bounding across a moonlit outback. The 1kg gold Kangaroo will feature the original Stuart Devlin design of a red kangaroo framed by rays of light.
The 2015 gold Lunar coins celebrate the Year of the Goat, with a majestic ram on a mountaintop, surveying his realm. Available sizes range from 1/20 oz., 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, a 1 oz coin (limited to 30,000), 2 oz, 10 oz, and 1 kilo (32.15 oz) sizes.
The Perth Mint offers bullion, proof and colorized versions of both these coins, as well as numerous other gold proof and collectible coins.
