Details & Specifications

Morgan dollars are very popular among coin collectors and silver bullion buyers, and Gainesville Coins caters to both with a selection of raw and certified Morgans in various dates and grades.

These "raw" Random Date Morgan Dollars in VG-VF are attractively priced for those looking to build a collection, or simple looking for a little history in their silver. Buyers will receive ONE random date Morgan dollar that has been judged "by eye" to be between Very Good (VG) and Very Fine (VF) condition. The stock photo shows a random selection of Morgans that were grouped under this stock number to illustrate the average condition.

The Morgan Dollar was minted from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921. It was designed by George T Morgan of the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. He used a local school teacher named Anna Williams as his model when designing the Lady Liberty profile. Even though it was (obviously) a fully-clothed sitting, just of her head, "proper" women just did NOT sit for artists. When word got out, she lost her job, but due to the publicity was able to secure another teaching position.

The obverse of the Morgan Dollar shows Miss Williams as Lady Liberty, wearing a Phrygian cap with the word LIBERTY emblazoned on the front. She wears a wreath of wheat and cotton, the two top agricultural products of the United States. Above her is the motto "E Pluribus Unum", and below her is the year date. The reverse features the American Bald Eagle in heraldic pose. The legend "In God We Trust" spans between the eagle's wings, while a laurel wreath encircles the lower part of the scene. "United States of America" and the face value of "One Dollar" run along the border.
