Purchase the 2012 1 oz Gold Kangaroo, a 24k, .9999 pure gold coin from Australia’s Perth Mint. The Gold Kangaroo has the distinction of being one of the few gold bullion coin series whose design changes every year. The other major gold bullion series with a changing annual design are the Chinese Gold Panda and the Perth Mint’s Gold Lunar series. The design of the 2012 Australian Gold Kangaroo features a red kangaroo standing in the outback with a windmill in the background. The detail of the 2012 design is exquisite, and complements the Gold Kangaroo’s distinctive two tone, proof-like finish.
The Australian Gold Kangaroo has been minted since 1989 and was originally the Australian Gold Nugget, first minted in 1986. The Gold Nugget featured different images of gold nuggets. Obviously, changing the design for a red kangaroo is considerably more interesting than changing images of a nugget, even if it was gold.
The Gold Kangaroo is also notable in the many various sizes it is available, including 1/20oz, 1/10 oz, ¼ oz, ½ oz, 1 oz, 2 oz, 10 oz, and 1 kilo.
