Koala Fun Facts
The koala is a marsupial native to Australia. It is often mistaken for a wombat,
its closest living relative. The koala diet consists almost entirely of eucalyptus
leaves. The koala has an extremely low metabolic rate, and rest motionless between
16 to 18 hours a day. The Koala nearly faced extinction in the early 20th century
due to hunting for the Koala’s pelt. Currently, habitat loss, disease and urbanization
threaten the viability of the koala population.
