Purchase the 2012 10 oz Silver Koala at Gainesville Coins. Each year features a design change, and the 2012 Silver Koala design by artist Aleysha Howarth depicts a sleeping Koala on a large Eucalyptus branch. Much of the popularity of the Perth Mint’s Silver Koala is no doubt due to the Koala’s iconic reputation which is synonymous with wildlife in the Australian outback.
The Silver Koala was introduced by the Perth Mint in 2007. There are no mintage limits for the Silver Koala, but the series is popular among both collectors and investors. It should be noted that other well known Perth Mint silver bullion programs, like the Silver Lunar Series and the Silver Kookaburra, due have mintage limits.
Silver Koala coins come individually encased in a plastic capsule from the Perth Mint. The Silver Koala is minted in ½ oz, 1 oz, 10 oz, and 1 kilo sizes.

Koala Fun Facts
The koala is a marsupial native to Australia. The Koala’s closest living relative is the wombat. The koala diet is nearly exclusive to eucalyptus leaves. The koala has a very slow digestive system, and rests motionless for much of the day. The Koala population has been hard pressed, and the Koala faced extinction in the early 20th century due to hunting for the Koala’s pelt. Koala numbers remain dangerously low due to habitat loss, disease and urbanization.
