Koala Fun Facts
The koala is broadly similar to the wombat, its closest living relative. The koala is a marsupial that is native to Australia. The koala diet consists almost entirely of eucalyptus leaves. The koala has an extremely low metabolic rate, and rest motionless between 16 to 18 hours a day. The Koala nearly faced extinction in the early 20th century due to hunting for the Koala’s pelt. Currently, habitat loss, disease and urbanization threaten the viability of the koala population.
