The $2.5 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle coins are 4.18 grams of .900 fine gold, that were minted between 1908-1915 and again from 1925-1929. The coins are 18 mm in diameter and have a denomination of $2.50. These raw $2½ Indian Head gold coins offered here have not been graded by a professional grading service (“raw” signifying ungraded). The VF designation refers to the coins’ “Very Fine” general condition.

The design for the $2.5 Indian Gold Quarter Eagles was created by Bela-Lyon Pratt and used for the Half Eagles as well. The obverse of the coin features the bust of an Indian man, wearing a battle headdress. The Indian is framed by 13 stars to represent the original colonies. The word "LIBERTY" is above the Indian, while the date is below. The reverse of the coin features an eagle standing on a bundle of arrows holding an olive branch. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is displayed above the eagle and the denomination "2 1/2 DOLLARS" is below. The mottos "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" frame the eagle.

These $2.5 Indian Gold Quarter Eagles were minted at the Philadelphia and Denver mints. The mint mark "D" can be found on those coins that come from Denver. These coins are unique because they are the first U.S. circulation coins to have the motifs pressed into the coin, not raised out of it.
