Details & Specifications

The $2½ Liberty Head Quarter Eagle Gold Coin, produced from 1840 to 1907, was made with .1209 oz of gold. It was known as the “Quarter Eagle” due to its denomination being one fourth that of the $10 Gold Eagle coin. This raw $2.5 Liberty gold coin is in “Extra Fine,” (XF), condition. “Raw” is a term used to distinguish coins that have not been rated by a professional grading service. “XF” signifies the “Extremely Fine” general quality of these coins. The date of coinage on the Liberty Gold Quarter Eagles depends on Gainesville Coin's current inventory.

Christian Gobrect was heavily influenced by Neoclassicism, and was inspired by Benjamin West's famous painting Omnia Vincit Amor, translation “Love Conquers All.” This design by Christian Gobrecht, known as the “Coronet Liberty Head”, dominated US gold coinage for most of the 19th Century.

The obverse features the Coronet Liberty Head design with a profile of a left-facing Lady Liberty. Lady Liberty's curly hair is tucked away in a low bun. She wears her patriotic coronet with, “LIBERTY,” inscribed across it. Lady Liberty is encircled by thirteen starts, representing the Thirteen Colonies of the U.S. The coin's date appears below Liberty's profile.

The coin's reverse portrays the famous American Bald Eagle. The eagle soars while carrying an olive branch and arrows in its talons. Symbolically, the Eagle is carrying Peace and War, the eagle looks toward peace to represent America's preference. A patriotic shield covers the eagle's chest. The legend on the reverse circles the eagle, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and the denomination of, “2½ D.”

Gainesville Coins offers a variety of Liberty Gold Quarter Eagles.
