The obverse features the Coronet Liberty Head design with a profile of a left-facing Lady Liberty. Lady Liberty's curly hair is tucked away in a low bun. She wears her patriotic coronet with, “LIBERTY,” inscribed across it. Lady Liberty is encircled by thirteen starts, representing the Thirteen Colonies of the U.S. The coin's date appears below Liberty's profile.

The coin's reverse portrays the famous American Bald Eagle. The eagle soars while carrying an olive branch and arrows in its talons. Symbolically, the Eagle is carrying Peace and War, the eagle looks toward peace to represent America's preference. A patriotic shield covers the eagle's chest. The legend on the reverse circles the eagle, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and the denomination of, “2½ D.”
