The three-coin 2006 American Silver Eagle Proof Set was a historic release for U.S. numismatists. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the American Silver Eagle bullion coin program, the set contained the first-ever reverse proof coin struck by the U.S. Mint. In addition to the 2006 reverse proof ASE, which was minted in Philadelphia, a regular proof and a "burnished uncirculated" Silver Eagle struck at the West Point Mint. were included. This was the first time an uncirculated Silver Eagle bore the "W" mintmark of West Point.
The reverse proof has mirror-like devices on a frosted field, the opposite of the regular proof. The burnished uncirculated Silver Eagle is struck on specially burnished blanks.
