In 1943, the Mexican Mint struck the 50 pesos with the wording 37.5 Gr. Oro Puro to the left and the right of Winged Victory. The government at the time felt that since the coin contained far more than 50 pesos in gold that there was no reason to have 50 pesos on the coin. The public outcry was such that 50 pesos was added back to the coin the following year. An interesting one year type with a great story.
Each Mexican 50 Peso contains 1.2057oz of gold. In comparison to other coins the Mexican 50 Peso is much larger, with a diameter of 37.08mm and a thickness of 2.69mm.
