A person born in the Year of the Snake, in the Chinese Zodiac, is passionate, intellectual, and strong-willed. 1905, 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001 and 2012 are Years of the Snake. A Snake’s best companions are the Ox, the Rooster, and the Dragon, however, steer clear of the Tiger and the Pig, as relations with either of them can be unsettling.
The obverse of these coins carries the right side profile of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. The date, the Queen’s name, Australia, the denomination, and the coin's weight for each coin are inscribed around the border.
The coins' reverse features a snake looped on a budding Chinese Plum Tree branch, surveying the comings and goings below him. The Chinese character for ‘snake’ is to the right, with the Perth Mint “P” mint mark to the extreme right, near the tip of the snake’s tongue. The legend, “Year of the Snake,” appears along the bottom border.
