The Silver Eagle features the 1916 Walking Liberty, on the obverse. Lady Liberty has the American flag over her right shoulder as she walks towards the sunrise. She holds a bundle of laurel and oak branches in her left arm. The reverse is modeled after the U.S. Great Seal, which was adopted in 1782 as America's Coat of Arms. The American Bald Eagle has a shield on its chest as it bears arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The original 13 colonies are represented by the 13 stars above the eagle's head.
