This 2013 Gold Buffalo Coin is a special edition Reverse Proof Coin. This coin is a Chicago ANA Release and was released to attendees at the 2013 ANA World's Fair of Money in Chicago. The Acting Mint Director, Mr. Richard A. Peterson signed the Certificate of Authenticity for this Gold Buffalo at the convention. Then NGC graded the condition of this coin a Perfect Grade of PF70. The coin is enclosed in a NGC holder and carries a special Chicago ANA Release label. This Buffalo was struck at the West Point branch of the U.S. Mint from one troy ounce of 99.99% pure gold. The U.S. Government guarantees the $50 Dollar Gold Buffalo for its fineness, weight and legal tender. This coin was minted to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1913 "Buffalo Nickel," designed by James Earle Fraser, who as a student of the famous Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
This Reverse Proof coin has a mirror-finish illuminating the Indian Head and Buffalo Designs on a frosted field. The obverse features the 1913 Buffalo Nickel Design of an American Indian's profile. The motto, “LIBERTY,” is struck to the right of the Indian's profile. The West Point mint mark “W” and “2013,” are in the lower right corner of the reverse. The reverse displays the famous American Bison “Black Diamond,” facing left. Arched above the buffalo is, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and, “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” The motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” is struck underneath the buffalo's head. The bottom of the reverse contains the denomination, “$50,” with the weight and purity of, “1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD.”
