The 1985 Mexico 500 Peso gold World Cup coin was minted to commemorate the 1986 FIFA World Cup which was held in Mexico. Each coin was minted by the historic Mexican mint from .900 fine gold and has an actual gold content of .500 troy ounces of pure gold. These world cup commemorative coins have a face value of 500 Pesos. In 1985 only 102,000 coins were produced.
The obverse is made up of the very elegant and highly detailed coat of arms of Mexico. The rim is also adorned with a stylized Aztec design.
The reverse shows the Aztec calendar with the silhouette of a soccer player running before it. The inscription "Copa mundial de futbol" is arched along the top left side of the rim and it translates to "World Cup." The year of issue, face value and 1986 World cup logo are all minted below the Aztec calendar.
