The 2014 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle coins are official gold bullion coins minted by the United States Mint. Each coin has been determined to be in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The United States government guarantees that each coin contains 1/10 troy ounce of pure gold. The coins are legal tender and have a face value of 5 dollars.
Augustus Saint-Gaudens designed the obverse of the coin which is also featured on US $20 gold coins struck between 1907 and 1933. It showcases Lady Liberty as she walks forward out of the rising sun. Behind her is an image of the Capitol building. One hand holds a torch high, while the other holds an olive branch. There are 46 stars framing her, to represent the states in the Union at the time that the coin was designed. The word "LIBERTY" is inscribed on the top of the coin, while the date is within the sun's rays. Miley Busiek designed the reverse of the coin, choosing to portray a family of American Bald Eagles. "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is prominent on the top of the coin, while the two mottoes "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST' frame the family. The weight, purity and denomination are listed beneath the image.
The 2014 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle coins are Congress mandated to contain gold that is mined solely from the U.S. As a part of the Bullion Coin Act of 1985, these coins carry one of the most beautiful designs to be featured on a U.S. coin, Saint-Gaudens' vision of Lady Liberty.
