The Royal Canadian Mint has released the second installation of its Call of the Wild series of gold coins with the 2015 Canada 1 oz Gold Growling Cougar coin! This coin comes safely encapsulated in its own assay card from the Mint, and is struck from a remarkable "five-nines" (.99999 fine) pure gold! This legal tender coin is designated with a face value of 200 Dollars, and contains 1 troy ounce of fine gold content.
The reverse, designed by artist Pierre Leduc, depicts a ferocious cougar in fine detail as it unleashes an intimidating roar. Vibration lines in the background behind the cougar's head visualize the sound waves created by the growl. A small maple leaf privy mark with the year-date "15" micro-etched in the center is placed just to the right of the cougar's neck, and also serves as a security feature. The issuing nation "CANADA" is inscribed at the top rim. Along the bottom half of the rim, inscriptions indicate the coin's weight and purity, reading, "FINE GOLD 99999 1 OZ OR PUR."
The obverse shows Susanna Blunt's familiar effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right. Her Majesty's name curls along the top rim, while the denomination "200 DOLLARS" and the year-date "2015" are placed along the bottom rim. The RCM assay card features the Mint logos and the chief assayer's mark, as well as the coin's specifications.
The Call of the Wild series debuted in 2014 with the Howling Wolf coin. Sticking with the theme, the 2015 Canada 1 oz Growling Cougar gold coin could stir collector interest with the continuation of the series. Only one more Call of the Wild coin will be released, in 2016, so build toward collecting the 3-coin series with the Canadian Growling Cougar .99999 fine gold coin today!
