Details & Specifications

Canada, sometimes referred to the as the "Great White North" relative to the United States, is a country rich in natural resources—including gold. Long before the country has formally received its independence from the British Crown, the Royal Canadian Mint was established as a facility to refine and coin all of the Canadian gold into British Gold Sovereigns. Today, Canada has a hefty gold coin of its own: the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf. Struck from extra-pure .9999 fine gold, each of these coins has 1 troy ounce of pure gold and a face value of 50 Dollars. Even better, these 2015 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leafs come securely sealed in their own assay card.

The reverse design, created over 30 years ago by Walter Ott, shows the traditional national symbol of Canada, the maple leaf. This image is highly detailed, with each vein and jagged edge of the leaf rendered in vivid intricacy. The number "9999" appears on each side of the leaf, indicating the coin's "four nines" purity (i.e. 99.99% pure). The issuing country "CANADA" is found across the top rim. Inscriptions along the bottom rim read, "FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR," with "OR PUR" meaning "pure gold" in French. A smaller maple leaf emblem with the number "15" micro-engraved into its center is found just below the main maple leaf image as a security feature.

On the obverse, the right-facing portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II is shown, designed by Susanna Blunt. (The Royal Canadian Mint is the only mint that uses this version of the Queen's image.) Her Majesty's name, "ELIZABETH II," is found across the top rim. Along the bottom rim, the denomination "50 DOLLARS" is followed by the year-date "2015." The coin's edge is reeded. Each coin comes sealed in plastic with its own assay card from the Mint, which is decorated with the RCM logo and maple leafs on one side and lists the coin's specifications with the assayer's signature on the opposite side.

The Royal Canadian Mint has been producing the Gold Maple since 1979, making it the first government-minted gold bullion coin to the hit the international market following the South African Krugerrand in 1967. Not only are Gold Maple Leaf coins recognized all over the world as a national symbol of Canada, but they are valued by precious metals investors for their extra-pure .9999 fine gold and eligibility to be included in a self-directed IRA. Don't hesitate to add these 2015 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf 1 oz coins (in assay card) to your portfolio or coin collection today!
