In Norse mythology, there is no deity that receives greater veneration than Odin, the wise and powerful godhead. This supreme diety is the subject of the new Odin 2 oz Double-Sided Ultra High Relief Silver Coin, the first coin in the Norse Gods series and the first-ever legal tender coin struck in double-sided High Relief! Issued by the island nation Niue with a face value of 5 Dollars, these .999 fine silver contain a total of 2 troy ounces of pure silver. In addition to being accompanied by an attractive display box, this coin is limited to a worldwide mintage of just 750 coins!
The reverse design, created by world-famous sculptor Heidi Wastweet, shows Odin from the front profile. He wears a winged Norse helmet and distinctive armor while holding his sword blade-down. His beard is grown long and his hair falls to his shoulders. His two ravens, Muninn and Huginn, fly across the design behind Odin while two wolves, Freki and Geri, are seen running in the foreground. A panel against the left rim bears the inscription "ODIN" vertically.
The obverse uses Raphael Maklouf's right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing her royal diadem. The left half of the outer rim is filled by a decorative ornamentation of the Midgard Serpent grabbing his tail in is teeth - also an original design created by Heidi Wastweet. Inscriptions against the right rim include "ELIZABETH II," the issuing country "NIUE," and the denomination "5 DOLLARS." Curling beneath these inscriptions are the weight and purity, "2 TROY OZ .999 FINE SILVER." The edge is plain.
The coin's antique finish gives the surface a steely silver luster and an ancient atmosphere in addition to the dramatic Ultra High Relief on both sides of the coin. In many Nordic and Germanic traditions, Odin is the steward of the warriors' spiritual paradise known as Valhalla. The Odin 2 oz Double-Sided Ultra High Relief Silver $5 Niue Antique Finish Coin combines 2 troy ounces of silver with a minuscule mintage of just 750 coins.
