Whether you are a coin collector or are primarily concerned with adding precious metals to your investment portfolio, the 2016 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle coin (BU) is among the most popular choices on the global gold market. Struck from .917 fine gold, these 22-karat gold coins have a total fine gold content of one-quarter troy oz (1/4 troy ounce). They are also legal tender with a denomination of 10 Dollars.
On the obverse, Lady Liberty is shown carrying a torch in a forward procession. She also holds an olive branch off to the side in her left arm. "LIBERTY" is inscribed across the rim above her head, while the year of issue "2016" is placed to her right. Fifty stars fill the outer rim as radiant light emerges from behind the horizon. The Capitol building can be seen in the bottom-left corner, while the monogram of the artist (August Saint-Gaudens) is found to the bottom-right of the design. The edges are reeded.
The reverse shows Miley Busiek's design of a bald eagle family in their nest. The father eagle, coming in for a landing, holdings a small branch in its talons. Meanwhile, the mother eagle and her eaglets are snuggled together in the nest. "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," two of our national mottoes, are found at the center of the design to the left and right, respectively, of the eagle scene. The issuing country "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" runs along the top rim. At the bottom rim, "1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD~10 DOLLARS" is inscribed.
Thanks to its attractive design and government-backed gold content, there are few forms of gold that command the same international reputation as the Gold Eagle. It is easily recognized the world over, engendering trust in the same way that physical gold is of incontrovertible intrinsic value. In 2015, the U.S. Mint could hardly keep up with demand for quarter-ounce Gold Eagles, as this denomination of gold coins "sold out" (for all intents and purposes) before the end of November. Don't miss out on the 2016 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle coin at Gainesville Coins!
