Each of the last three years, the American Silver Eagle has successively set new annual sales records. Beyond its appeal as .999 fine silver bullion, these coins are also widely collected for their beauty. With the 2016 American Silver Eagle PCGS MS69 First Strike, you get a Silver Eagle certified by the expert graders at Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) to be MS69—a single point shy of a perfect grade! In addition, the "First Strike" designation means PCGS received the coin for grading within 30 days of being issued by the mint. Each coin contains 1 troy ounce of fine silver and is given a face value of 1 Dollar.
On the obverse, Lady Liberty is shown walking forward carrying oak and laurel in her left arm. She wears a dress designed like Old Glory and reaches her arm out toward the rising sun of a new day. This design, created by Adolph Weinman, originally appeared on the Walking Liberty half dollar in 1916. The year-date "2016" appears at the bottom rim. "LIBERTY" runs across the top half of the rim while "IN GOD WE TRUST" is placed to the right of Miss Liberty.
The reverse shows the heraldic eagle design created by John Mercanti. Wings spread, the bald eagle carries arrows and an olive branch in its talons and a banner reading "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. Thirteen stars appear above its head while a shield protects its breast. The issuing nation "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed along the top rim while the specifications "1 OZ. FINE SILVER~ONE DOLLAR" appear at the bottom rim.
Serious collectors are drawn to graded examples of the Silver Eagle, and there is only one grade higher than MS69. On the 100th anniversary of the Walking Liberty theme and the 30th anniversary of the Silver Eagle coin series, this 2016 American Silver Eagle PCGS MS69 First Strike is loaded with history.
