Details & Specifications

In addition to its bullion and proof versions of the Gold Eagle, the U.S. Mint has also begun offering the special burnished edition of this 22-karat (.917 fine) gold coin. In addition to bearing a mintmark, these coins are struck with specially prepared dies that give them a unique finish. You can get a certified example of the Burnished Gold Eagle with the 2016 W $50 Burnished American Gold Eagle NGC MS70 - Early Release. The expert graders at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) gave these coins a perfect grade, MS70, meaning they are in flawless condition! They also received the "Early Releases" designation by being delivered to NGC within 30 days of being issued. Like its uncirculated and proof counterparts, this coin has a face value of 50 Dollars and contains 1 troy ounce of fine gold content.

The obverse shows a modern take on Augustus Saint-Gaudens' classic Liberty design. Lady Liberty marches forward with a lit torch in hand and radiant sunlight behind her. She holds an oak branch in her off hand. The Capitol building appears at the bottom-left corner in the distance. "LIBERTY" curls along the top rim. The year of issue "2016" is placed to the right of Miss Liberty. The "W" mintmark appears just below. The outer rim is decorated with fifty stars.

A family of bald eagles appears on the reverse, designed by Miley Busiek. Two eaglets are protected by their mother's wing in the family nest, while the father eagle returns with an olive branch in his talons. "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed to the right and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is placed to the left. The issuing country "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" runs across the top rim. "1 OZ. FINE GOLD~50 DOLLARS" is inscribed along the bottom rim. The edge is reeded.

The burnished finish is more similar in appearance to the uncirculated version than the proof, but it is produced in a more similar manner to a proof. The "W" mintmark indicates that these coins were struck at the West Point Mint. Thanks to far lower mintage totals, the Burnished Gold Eagle is a favorite among collectors of the series. You can't any better than an MS70 grade, either! urchase your 2016 W $50 Burnished American Gold Eagle NGC MS70 Early Releases from Gainesville Coins over the phone or online!
