Details & Specifications

2017 marks the beginning of the fourth decade in the American Eagle bullion coin program, and the 2017 1/10 oz Gold American Eagle is an affordable way to incrementally increase the level of gold in your asset mix. The handy 1/10 troy oz gold content on this, the smallest coin in the American Gold Eagle program, allows for quick purchases on price dips with cash on-hand. The 1/10 oz Gold Eagle allows you to sell just the amount needed in case of a sudden emergency, instead of being forced to liquidate an entire ounce.

One area that can confuse the beginning gold buyer is the 22K (.9167 gold purity) of the American Gold Eagles. They worry that they aren't getting the same amount of gold that they would from 24K .999 fine gold. There is nothing to worry about! Gold Eagles have a total weight above their stated gold content, to make up for the alloy added to the pure gold to reduce scratching. For example. the 2017 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle coin actually weighs 0.1091 troy ounces so that your are guaranteed .1000 troy ounces of gold content.

The obverse of the American Gold Eagle features the beloved design of master sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens which was created for the 1907 $20 gold piece. Considered by many to be the epitome of American coin design, the image is dominated by a confident Lady Liberty striding toward the viewer, the rays of a rising sun spreading behind her. She holds the Torch of Liberty in one hand, and the olive branch of Peace in the other. At her feet lies a bough of oak, symbolizing excellence in War, in easy reach should it be necessary to defend the Republic. The US Capitol building is visible in the far left distance.

The reverse of the American Gold Eagle coins spotlights the original design of Miley Busiek. An illustration of the importance of family in the American spirit, the scene features a male Bald Eagle approaching the nest with an olive branch in his talons. In the nest, the female Bald Eagle shields her two chicks with her wings.

The 2017 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle is part of the 31st year of the Gold Eagle program. The purity and weight of each American Gold Eagle is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States of America.
