What are spot prices?

article | Published On March 05, 2015 by Gainesville Coins

Welcome to the Gainesville Coins Live Spot Price Monitoring Center! Here you will find a wealth of information about current and historical spot prices for all of the precious metals, allowing you to educate yourself on the mechanics of the precious metals markets. Included are the current floating prices for the all three of the major precious metals, including gold, silver, and platinum. We have also included charts that depict the historical behavior of the spot prices for the various precious metals. Within each tab, you’ll find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about gold, silver, and platinum.

The spot prices of the various precious metals are the constantly changing prices at which they are traded on the global market. Unlike futures prices, spot prices indicate the value of precious metals for immediate delivery. Spot prices are used by financial institutions, precious metals dealers, and investors to calculate the price at which varying silver products are bought and sold. Whether they be physical products (such as bars, coins, or bullion) or financial instruments (such as ETF shares), the spot prices of precious metals are the basis for which those products are sold and traded.
