Gainesville Coins just received a shipment of 2013 South African gold Krugerrands in 1 oz and 1/10 oz sizes. Introduced in 1967 as the world's first modern bullion coin, the 22k Krugerrand had 90% of the worldwide gold coin market by 1980. In the 1980s, many other gold bullion coins entered the market, but the Krugerrand still retains stature in popular culture as the coin people think of when they hear "gold bullion coins."
The 1 oz Krugerrand weighs 1.09 troy oz, with 1 oz of that being gold. The Krugerrand has retained its design of Paul Kruger on the obverse, and a springbok antelope, iconic animal of South Africa, on the reverse.
