Weekend treasure hunter Jason Parkin in England has uncovered an engraved gold ring between two castles in Alnwick, Northumberland, that may well be hundreds of years old.
Jason, 42, a postman, said: “I got a signal and I dug down with my trowel about four inches and pulled up a clump of soil then I saw the gold glistening and knew it was a ring.
“I cleaned it up and it’s got a flower on it and an inscription of what looks like French."
The ring has been handed over to authorities, per English law, who will decide its fate. Parkin says he would be glad to see it in a museum, where as many people as possible could see it.
