Medieval Silver Coins Found by English Treasure Hunter Near Newton Abbot

This Is Plymouth has the story of Mr. Ian Fraser, who has used his metal detector near the Hannahs school at Seale-Hayne in Devon to unearth six medieval silver coins. With special permission from the school, he explored near an old farmstead on school property, looking for artifacts.

This coins include an Edward VI sixpence (1547-1563), four Elizabeth I sixpences from the late 1500s, a James I shilling (1603-1625) and a Charles I shilling and a sixpence (1625-1649.)  Other coins from the 1700s and early 1800s were found as well. The buried coins were scattered across an area that was formerly a crop field. They have been turned over to government per the Treasure Act of 1996.
