Today marks the release of the 2nd coin in the Birds of Prey Series from the Royal Canadian Mint, featuring the majestic bald eagle. The bald eagle, long recognized as an awe-inspiring symbol of power, is rendered here in spectacular detail on a 1-ounce, .9999 fine silver coin with a bullion finish. This coin’s reverse, designed by artist Emily Damstra, depicts the bald eagle in flight with its wings outstretched, clutching a newly-caught fish in its talons. The bald eagle is a truly impressive bird, with adults standing near 3 feet long with a wingspan of more than 6 feet.
The Royal Canadian Mint’s Birds of Prey Series began in February 2014 with the release of a coin depicting the Peregrine Falcon, the world’s fastest animal. Each coin in the four-coin bi-annual series will depict one of North America’s most iconic predatory birds. The Birds of Prey series follows on the heels of the Royal Canadian Mint’s Wildlife Series which featured a number of Canada’s best known animals, including the timberwolf, grizzly bear, cougar, moose, pronghorn antelope, and wood bison.
The Royal Canadian Mint continues to celebrate the natural beauty of their country with unique series and innovative designs by their talented artists. Additionally, the Royal Canadian Mint has long been an industry leader in producing some of the world’s purest bullion products. The Royal Canadian Mint also leads the bullion industry with its innovative security features. The 2014 versions of the mint’s famed silver Maple Leaf bullion coins contain a laser-etched security mark and a radially struck field that make them some of the most secure bullion coins on the market.
