What Is Palladium?

Palladium is a rare, silvery-white metal in the Platinum Group. Like its cousin platinum, palladium is an exceptionally rare metal. It is only rather recently that precious metal investors became aware of palladium, creating demand for palladium products like coins and bars.

Palladium bullion products are still in fairly short supply. Many coin dealers find it difficult to keep much palladium. If you have trouble finding palladium to buy, buying silver is a great alternative precious metal (and much less expensive!).

Much of the world's palladium supply comes from Russia. This led to some of the very first Russian palladium coins featuring a ballerina design in 1989. Years later, Canada's Royal Canadian Mint followed with its Canadian Palladium Maple Leaf coin that debuted in 2005.

Even more recently, in 2017, the United States Mint also joined the market with the American Palladium Eagle, which features an obverse design originally used for the "Mercury" dime from 1916 to 1945.

Buying Palladium Bullion

Due to its fairly limited availability in the bullion market, many precious metals dealers may not consistently carry palladium. If you're interested in buying palladium coins but none are available, you might have to contact the seller and request the item specifically. It will depend on market conditions with wholesalers and the network of bullion dealers.

Gainesville Coins carries a variety of palladium bars, coins, and rounds for sale. The coins and rounds feature a variety of images and represent several countries. The bars come from reliable industry names you trust like Engelhard and Stillwater, the primary palladium producer in America. Get these precious metal investments and collectables today!
