The Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf was introduced in 1988. Initially minted in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz sizes, the series gained the tiny 1/20 oz version in 1993. In 1994 an experimental 1/15 oz size was minted, but discontinued the same year.
The Platinum Maple Leaf was discontinued after the 1999 mintage due to rising platinum prices, except for a 2002 hologram platinum Maple Leaf set that was limited to 500 sets. The Royal Canadian Mint resumed production of the Platinum Maple Leaf in 2009 (but only in 1 oz), following the success of the American Platinum Eagle.
