Canadian Wildlife Silver Coins
The Canadian Wildlife series of silver bullion coins by the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) includes six original designs that were released bi-annually between 2011 and 2013. Each coin features one of six distinctive species of fauna native to Canada: the Wolf; Pronghorn Antelope; Grizzly Bear; Cougar; Moose; and Wood Bison. You can celebrate the majestic large animal species of the Great North with this collectible series of silver coins!
Each intricately detailed coin in this series is struck from extra-pure .9999 fine silver and contains 1 troy oz of actual silver weight (ASW), just like the iconic Canadian Silver Maple Leaf coin. However, while the Silver Maple Leaf enjoys a
large mintage each year to meet demand for silver bullion, each Canadian Wildlife series coin has a limited mintage of
only 1,000,000 pieces worldwide.
This silver coin series has been so popular with collectors that the Royal Canadian Mint has introduced two similar follow-ups to the Wildlife series: the "Birds of Prey" and the "Call of the Wild" silver bullion series, which will be 4- and 3-coin series, respectively.
In February of 2014 the Peregrine Falcon 1 oz Silver Coin was released. It is the first coin in the "Birds of Prey" series, a follow-up to the Wildlife series. The series will include a total of four coins which are scheduled to be released between 2014 and 2015. Each coin in this series will be limited to a mintage of 1,000,000 coins worldwide.
The Arctic Series has received a lot of attention since it is the first Canadian silver coin to weigh in at 1.5 troy ounces compared to the standard one troy oz size of the silver maple leaf. Despite having a slightly higher premium the first two coins in the series have been quite successful. The Polar Bear was released in 2013 followed by the Arctic Fox in 2014.
