Royal Australian Mint Gold Coins
The Royal Australian Mint may be less well-known than its national counterpart to the west, the Perth Mint, but it is nonetheless one of the world’s most prominent government mints. The gold coins produced by the Royal Australian Mint are a relatively new occurrence, actually. Traditionally, the Perth Mint handled all of Australia’s gold and silver coins, while the Royal Australian Mint struck all of the country’s circulating coins.
The mint is probably best-known for its Chinese Lunar series gold coins, a motif which appears all over the world but the artists at the Royal Australian Mint continue to put their own unique spin on. Even in a crowded market that is filled with Lunar-themed coins made by other major world mints, the creativity exhibited by the 2016 Lunar Gold Monkey coins honoring the Year of the Monkey stands out for its impressive originality. These gold coins range in size from as small as 1/20th of an ounce to as large as the standard 1 oz version.
