Details & Specifications

For a way to acquire silver and an iconic US coin, consider our Common Date Silver Peace Dollars in Cull condition. They measure 38.1 mm across, contain 0.77 troy oz of silver, and have a gross weight of 26.73 grams. As cull coins, they have very little numismatic value, traded primarily based on their intrinsic silver value. Dates are at random.

The obverse of the Peace Silver Dollar depicts Lady Liberty. Sculptor Anthony De Francisci based the design on his wife Teresa. The obverse includes the inscription “LIBERTY” around the top rim, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” divided by the bust, and the year minted shown below the truncation. The monogram for de Francisci is also placed beneath the truncation, and the coin's edge is reeded. The reverse of the Peace Dollar depicts a perched bald eagle grasping an olive branch. Rays of the sun emanate toward the top rim, where the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and "E PLURIBUS UNUM” appear. The denomination, “ONE DOLLAR,” is divided by the eagle, with the word "PEACE" placed on the rock the eagle rests upon.

There was great controversy over the message conveyed by a symbolic broken sword that sculptor Anthony de Francisci used in the original design. Chief Engraver George Morgan removed the ambiguous symbol just before the release of the Peace Dollar, which required tirelessly adjusting much of the reverse design. The Peace Dollar only ran until 1928, briefly resuming production in 1934-1935, after which the master dies of the design were gathered and destroyed.

These cull coins are undeniably worn and may be toned, cleaned, or scratched, Whether you want to add to your portfolio with silver bullion or seek something interesting and affordable to add to your collection, you can buy one of these charming coins from Gainesville Coins today.
