The South African Mint 1/4 oz Gold Krugerrand Coins is made using 22-karat gold to increase the coins durability and the longevity while in circulation. Produced by the South African Mint in 1967, the Krugerrand was the first gold coin introduced to the bullion market. With the 1/4 ounce being first minted in 1980. The gold Krugerrand is one of the most widely traded gold coins. Over 46 million ounces are in circulation today.
The obverse Shows the likeness of Paul Kruger, from whom the Krugerrand got its name, with the words, "Suid-Afrika South Africa," around him. The reverse shows the African Springbok,the national animal of Africa, running across the plains. The year is split on either side of the animal with the coin's weight and name around the top of the coin while at the bottom are also the weight and fineness.
