Buy $2.5 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle (Very Fine) - Random Date

The $2.5 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle is a valuable addition to any coin collection. US Mint chief engraver Christian Gobrecht's Liberty Head design was first minted in 1840 through to 1907. Each Quarter Eagle was struck from .900 pure gold and contains .1209 ounces of gold. Gainesville Coins has Raw Liberty Head Quarter Eagle VF Gold Coins available for sale. “Raw” is the numismatic term for coins that have not been graded by a professional grading service. “VF” signifies the “Very Fine” general quality of these coins. The Liberty Head Quarter Eagle carried a face value of $2.50 (1/4 that of the $10 “Gold Eagle”)

The obverse shows Christian Gobrecht's Liberty wearing a coronet which led to it's also being known as a Quarter Coronet Head. Liberty is ringed by 13 stars representing the 13 original colonies and the mint date at the bottom. The reverse features a bald eagle, wings spread wide clutching arrows and olive branches in its talons. The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - 2 1/2 D.” surround the eagle.

In 1848 gold from the California gold rush was given to the US Mint and 1,389 Quarter Eagles were struck from this gold. Each bears the mint mark “CAL” above the eagle on the reverse and they are extremely rare.

Gainesville Coins has Raw Liberty Head Quarter Eagle VF Gold Coins in available inventory. “Raw” is the numismatic term for coins that have not been graded by a professional grading service. “VF” signifies the “Very Fine” general quality of these coins.
