If you are looking for an affordable way to get into the original modern gold bullion coin series, these Random Date 1/10 oz South Africa Gold Krugerrands are just the ticket. Started in 1967 as a way to promote the South African gold industry, the Krugerrand began being offered in fractional sizes in 1980 so that more individuals could afford to purchase gold.
Since the krugerrand was made by the South African Mint with the status of legal tender, it was struck from 22k (.9167 fine) gold. The 1/10 oz krugerrand actually comes in at a little above the announced weight, as the 1/10 troy oz of gold is the Actual Gold Weight (AGW), not the total weight of the coin.
The obverse features the left profile of Paul Kruger, president of the old South African Republic. "South Africa" in Afrikaans and English are struck on either side of his image. The reverse has the denomination "1/10 Krugerrand" over a springbok antelope, with the year-date split to either side. Below the springbok is the weight in Afrikaans and English: "Fyngoud 1/10 Oz Fine Gold".
Coin date varies and is randomly chosen from available inventory.
