These 80% Canadian Silver Dollars were minted between 1953-1967. Each coin contains approximately 0.60 troy ounces of pure silver. This silver bullion is considered legal tender and can be used in Canada for its face value of one dollar.
While this coin is considered legal tender, it was taken out of mass circulation in 1967. The current circulating dollar coin is actually made from nickle while these silver coins are now traded by coin collectors and silver buyers.
The obverse of the coin features a right facing, young Queen Elizabeth the second with the words "D. G. Regina" to the right of her. The reverse for this coin was designed by Emanuel Hahn and was used from the years 1935-1986. It features a birch wood canoe being paddled by a voyager and an aboriginal. Behind the pair of explorers and trees are several shallow lines. those lines are meant to represent the aurora borealis. Above the image is the word "CANADA" while below the image is the denomination of "DOLLAR".
