Buy 1968 Mexican Silver 25 Pesos Olympics Coin (.5209 oz of silver)
These commemorative Mexican 1968 Mexico City Olympics 25 Pesos Silver Coin are made of .720 fine silver, containing a total 0.5209 ounces of fine silver.
The obverse features the Coat of Arms of Mexico, with the image of a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus while devouring a rattlesnake. The face value of 25 Pesos is to the left of the eagle, and the purity, “Ley .720,” and the Mexico City mint mark are to the right.
The reverse of the coin has an image of a native Mesoamerican in costume, playing the ancient “rubber ball game,” ollamaliztli, with the outline of the I-shaped court behind him. The Olympic rings appear below him, and the legend, “Juegos De La XIX Olympiada Mexico 1968,” runs along the top border of the coin.
Minted by Casa de Moneda de Mexico, which means "House of the Mexican Money," the Mexico City 25 Silver Peso was designed to celebrate the 1968 Summer Olympics. The Mexico City Olympic Games were the very first to be held in Latin America, as well as in a Spanish-speaking country. Despite the fact that the 1968 Olympics were part of the Summer games, the event actually took place in October due to the Mexican Student Movement of 1968.
Add a piece of the Olympic Games history to your collection today with this Mexico City Olympics Silver 25 Peso commemorative coin.
