These attractive $5 Canadian Silver Olympic commemorative coins were minted from 1973 to 1976 in anticipation of the 1976 Summer Olympics held in Montreal. Each coin is struck from 0.925 fine silver has a net amount of 0.7227 troy oz of pure silver. Measuring 38 mm in diameter and 2.5 mm thick, they are legal tender in Canada and have a denomination of 5 dollars.
The obverse of these Olympic commemorative silver coins feature a right-facing portrait of a young Elizabeth II. Along the bottom rim is the Queen's name, the country of issue and the year-date. A small maple leaf below the truncation divides these inscriptions. The reverse of these coins feature various designs inspired by the different events of the Olympic games. On each, the date appears to the left, with the reverse legend, "Olympiade XXI Olympiad," and the Olympic rings above.
