This round was minted with .77 oz of Silver in the early 1960's by the Medallic Art Company, after Presidential Art Medals commissioned a series dedicated to honoring past U.S. Presidents. The Herbert Hoover Art Medal and the rest of the series was designed by Ralph J. Menconi. Pres. Hoover's administration is credited with taking action to set aside millions of acres of land for what would become the National Park and National Forest Services. He was also responsible for the re-organization of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and proposing the U.S. Department of Education. Prior to serving as President of the United States from 1929-1933, Pres. Hoover was the head of the U.S. Food Administration.
