The 1988 1 oz Silver Mexican Libertad was minted at the Moneda de Mexico, the oldest mint in North America. This coin features the Angel of Independence, located on the top of a monument in Mexico City. In her right hand she holds a laurel crown which symbolizes victory. In her left hand she holds a broken chain which symbolizes freedom. The Angel of Independence is a symbol of freedom, victory, and liberty to all who lay eyes upon her.
The obverse of the coin, features the Angel of Independence, wings spread, and is inscribed, "1 Onza, Plata Pura," or "1 ounce, pure silver," and below the Angel, "1988 Mexico Ley 999." The "M" of the Moneda de Mexico, or the Mexican Mint, can be seen under the Angel's left hand.
