The 2008 1 oz Proof Gold South African Krugerrand is a proof version of the world's longest-running gold bullion series. Introduced in 1967, krugerrands made up 90% of the international gold market in 1980 and by 2008 more than 45,000,000 ounces had been sold.
The obverse features a profile of Paul Kruger, a leader of the South African Republic. The name of South Africa in Afrikaans and English arc above the bust.
The reverse shows a leaping springbok, also known as a gazelle with Krugerrand inscribed across the top of the coin and its 2008 mint year divided on either side of the springbok. Below the springbok is the weight of the coin.
