This 2011 America The Beautiful 5 oz Silver Coin honors Olympic National Park in Washington state and is part of the America The Beautiful series which will commemorate a national site in each state and territory of the United States.
This coin is the 8th in the series and is made from 5 oz of .999 Fine Silver. This series can also be seen on the America The Beautiful Quarters which are being released at the same time.
The obverse of this coin features the classic U.S. Quarter obverse design of a left facing bust of George Washington with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" struck around the top half of the coin and QUARTER DOLLAR struck at the bottom. The mottos "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" are shown to either side of Washington's bust.
The reverse displays a view of Olympic National Park, with a Roosevelt Elk standing in the Hoh River bed with Mount Olympus and forest in the background. Olympic National Park spans over 922,650 acres in Washington and was designated as a national park by Franklin Roosevelt in 1938. Every year it receives almost 3 million visitors who enjoy hiking, camping, and kayaking, while taking in the beautiful vistas the park has to offer. The park is home to the Olympic mountain range, of which the highest peak is Mount Olympus.
If you love the America The Beautiful quarters but wish the artwork was larger, this 5 oz Silver Coin is a stunning option. The 5 oz Silver Coin series lets collectors enjoy all the details of each released scene in a large, highly polished, silver coin.
