Buy Peru 1 Libra Gold Coin - Random Date (.2354 oz of Gold)
The historic 1 Libra Gold Coin of Peru was first minted in 1898 and ceased production in 1930. It contains 0.2354 troy oz of gold and measures 22 mm in diameter. With a fineness of 0.917 gold, this coin was intended to be used for international trade, though its mintages were relatively low.
The obverse features the National Coat of Arms of Peru, supported on each side by two different sprigs, one of palm and one of laurel. A radiant sun sits above the heraldic shield. The legend “REPUBLICA PERUANA-LIMA” stretches nearly the entire length of the rim, only leaving space for the year-date along the very bottom rim. The reverse is graced by a right-facing bust wearing a headband with a hoop earring. The reverse legend, “VERDAD I—JUSTICIA,” curves around the top half of the rim, divided by the bust. The denomination “UNA LIBRA” is placed along the bottom rim beneath the truncation.
The Peruvian Gold 1 Libra Coin is prized for its beauty and its high gold purity. It was also minted in rather low numbers, which adds to its collectibility. Buy this intriguing gold piece for your collection from Gainesville Coins.
