Following up on the popular Canadian Wildlife silver coin series, the 2014 Canadian Peregrine Falcon 1 oz silver coin is the first of the four-coin Birds of Prey series from the Royal Canadian Mint. Struck from extra-fine .9999 silver--the same as the Silver Maple Leaf--this 1 troy ounce bullion coin is limited to a mintage of just 1 million.

The obverse of the coin features the Susanna Blunt design of Queen Elizabeth II. The bottom rim includes the year-date of 2014, and the denomination of $5. As legal tender, the weight and purity of this coin is fully guaranteed by the Canadian government. The reverse depicts a Peregrine Falcon, talons extended, in the moment before delivering its devastating attack. "CANADA" appears along the top rim, with "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR" stretching across the bottom rim. "9999" is inscribed to the left of the falcon, indicating the fineness of the silver content.

Able to dive at speeds exceeding 200 mph, the Peregrine Falcon is the world's fastest bird, and has been used since antiquity for hunting game. The falcon on the reverse was designed by Canadian artist Emily Damstra, who also designed the Pronghorn Antelope and Wood Bison for the Canadian Wildlife series. Her other coin designing credits include the 2012 circulating Canadian $1 coin (the "loonie") and the $20 silver Swimming Polar Bear bullion coin, among many others. This beautiful silver bullion coin is new for 2014, so get yours from Gainesville Coins while they're still in stock!
