The United States Mint's commemorative medals often honor noteworthy events, people or places. Honor America's hope with the 2011 September 11th 1 oz Proof Silver Commemorative National Medal. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the result of the 2001 terrorist attacks upon New York City's World Trade Center, including Washington D.C.'s Pentagon and a subsequent plane crash in Pennsylvania.
The medal's obverse features Lady Liberty holding up the Lamp of Remembrance with two vertical structures visible behind her, representing the lost towers. Inscriptions include, “ALWAYS REMEMBER,” and “2001-2011.” On the reverse is an eagle that appears to be landing against a scene of peaceful wavy line like waterfall.
Limited to a mintage of 2 million medals, it includes a small display box with Certificate of Authenticity from the United States Mint.
