Commemorate the national bird of the United States, the bald eagle, with this 2008 $5 commemorative proof gold coin from the US Mint. This beautiful proof gold coin is struck from .900 fine gold, and has an AGW of .242 troy ounces pure gold. This coin comes complete with the original mint box and certificate of authenticity.
The obverse of the coin depicts two bald eagles perched together on a tree branch. One eagle stands stoically with his wings folded as he surveys his surroundings. The other has his wings unfurled, as if to ascend into flight. The legend of the coin reads "LIBERTY", and is boldly engraved along the upper portion of the coins rim, while the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" lies in the field just below. The year of issue, "2014", runs along the lower rim.
The reverse of the coin depicts a classic heraldic eagle, clutching to a quiver of arrows and an olive branch, symbolic of America's desire for peace and willingness to defend itself from foreign tyranny. A banner hangs from the beak of the eagle and reads "E. PLURIBUS UNUM", Latin for "Out of many, one." The legend reads "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", running along the upper portion of the rim, with the denomination "FIVE DOLLARS" along the lower segment. The mintmark "W" (for West Point) lies just beneath the eagles tail feathers.
The 2008 Proof Gold Bald Eagle Commemorative Coin was part of a larger series honoring America's regal national bird. This coin makes a great gift for any coin collector or patriotic memorabilia enthusiast. Gainesville Coins prides itself on offering this coin, and others like it, at the lowest possible premiums over spot.
