Buy Panama Silver 1/2 Balboa - (BU) Random Dates .36 oz of Silver
Like many countries during the 19th and 20th centuries, Panama once issued 90% silver coins as circulating currency. The standards for their coinage, including weight, fineness, and denomination, were modeled after U.S. silver coins. As a result, the dollar has long been in use alongside the balboa in Panama, and the two currencies have a 1:1 exchange ratio. These random date 1/2 balboa silver coins contain 0.36 troy ounces of pure silver and are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
The obverse is graced by the left-facing bust of Vasco Núñez de Balboa, a Spanish explorer and conquistador during the early 1500s. Two laurel wreaths are placed along the bottom rim, emanating from either side of the portrait. The coin's legal tender denomination, "MEDIO BALBOA" (meaning "half balboa"), curls along the top rim. On the reverse, Panama's national Coat of Arms is shown with the reverse legend "REPUBLICA DE PANAMA" inscribed along the top rim. "LEY 0900" and "GR. 12.50" can be found adjacent to the national insignia. Two more laurel wreaths can be seen along the bottom rim on either side of the year-date.
If you're looking for a sharp, historic coin to add to your collection, or are simply interested in accumulating silver, these 1/2 balboa silver coins from Panama certainly fit the bill. Their size and actual silver weight (ASW) are comparable to the U.S. silver half dollar, speaking to the historical ties between the two countries. Make these .36 troy oz silver coins part of your holdings today from Gainesville Coins!
