Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Perth Mint's Australian Silver Kookaburra series, one of collectors' favorite silver bullion coin series, with the 2015 10 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra. These .999 fine silver coins introduce fresh reverse designs each year, but in honor of their 25th year, the Mint has decided to bring back the original 1990 design for 2015. Each coin contains 10 troy ounces of actual silver weight (ASW) and are legal tender coins designated with a 10 Dollar denomination.
The reverse design returns to the original image that debuted in 1990, an adult kookaburra perched on a tree stump, facing right, surrounded by eucalyptus leaves and a fern. The obverse legend “THE AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA” curls around the outer rim along the top. The weight and purity, “10 OZ .999 SILVER,” follows along the rim to the right. The dual date “1990-2015” appears centered on the bottom rim. In honor of the 25th anniversary, the familiar “P” mintmark for Perth is replaced by a special “P25” mintmark to the right of the kookaburra.
The obverse features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing toward the right. She is depicted wearing her royal crown and is encircled by rim inscriptions that indicate Her Majesty's name, the year of issue “2015,” the country of origin “AUSTRALIA,” and the face value “10 DOLLARS.”
Beginning September 1, these silver bullion coins will be released by the Perth Mint, but you can get ahead of the curve and already pre-order your own with Gainesville Coins. The kookaburra is one of Australia's most well-known birds; they have inspired popular songs and are even said to “laugh.” Pre-order today to add the 2015 10 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra coin to your collection!
